Message from the Superintendent Regarding School Start Times

Hello Pittsburg Community,
On Sunday, Oct 13th, the Governor signed several bills into laws. One of these is the "School Start Time" bill. This bill, now a law, requires Middle Schools/Junior Highs to start no earlier than 8:00am and for High Schools to start no earlier than 8:30am, by July 1, 2022. Our Junior Highs currently start at 8:30am and our High Schools currently start at 8:00am (PHS) and 8:20am (Black Diamond). This law does not require us to implement the later start until the 2022-2023 school year. There will be no changes to the start time for this school year. We will work together with our labor partners and the community to determine the best start time and the impact it will have on the end time, along with the date for implementation.

Mensaje de Parte de la Superintendente Sobre la Hora de Inicio de Clases

Hola Comunidad de Pittsburg,
El domingo 13 de octubre, el Gobernador firmó varias propuestas de ley. Una de ellas es la propuesta de ley "Hora de inicio de la escuela". Esta propuesta de ley, ahora una ley, requiere que las Escuelas Intermedias/Escuelas Secundarias no comiencen antes de las 8:00am y que las Escuelas Preparatorias no comiencen antes de las 8:30am, para el 1 de julio de 2022.  Nuestras Secundarias actualmente comienzan a las 8:30am y nuestras Escuelas Preparatorias actualmente comienzan a las 8:00am (PHS) y 8:20am (Black Diamond). Esta ley no requiere que implementemos el inicio más tarde hasta el año escolar 2022-2023.  No habrá cambios en la hora de inicio de este año escolar. Trabajaremos junto con nuestros socios laborales y la comunidad para determinar la mejor hora de inicio y el impacto que tendrá en la hora final, junto con la fecha de implementación.
