Greetings Scholars + Tiger Community,
My name is Ms. Turner and I am excited to be your 6th Grade Ancient History Teacher at Martin Luther King Jr. Junior High School. This is my second year teaching, though I have had the honor of working in Bay Area schools for the past four years. I attended San Francisco State University where I graduated with a degree in History of Art. My passion for history and working with youth in our community is what inspired me to join the Tiger Team!
Throughout this course, we will investigate the cultures, artifacts, and geography of Ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, Kush, India, China, Greece, and Rome. My hope is that in this class you will gain a better understanding that history is not just about what happened in the past; instead, history is about the lessons these stories tell. Through exploring these stories, or histories, we can build and reimagine a more humanizing future. I became a teacher because I truly believe that YOU have the power within you to do this difficult but necessary work. We will learn and grow together through this process of lifelong learning.
I want you to feel safe, empowered, and successful in my class. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have questions, need support, or just want to connect. I look forward to the year ahead!!
