    BDHS

We are at the start of another school year and I would like to welcome back all returning students and families, and welcome all of our new students to the 2018-2019 school year here at Black Diamond High School.  A new school year always brings with it new faces and new ideas.  We have two people who are joining the staff here at Black Diamond High School.  First, we have a new Vice Principal, Mr. David Sauceda.  Mr. Sauceda most recently worked in Mt. Diablo Unified School District, but also brings with him experience from all over the world, including Hawaii and Abu Dhabi.  In addition we are pleased to announce the hiring of Russell Lu as our new Science teacher.  Mr. Lu previously taught at Pittsburg High School and will be developing a new course for us as he will be teaching Chemcom which will replace Earth Science as our Physical Science course.  There will be some additional staffing, joining us in the near future including a Restorative Justice Coordinator and some other support staff.

Our goal is to continue to build off of the successes from last year.  We had one of the largest graduating classes in the history of Black Diamond, with over 105 students completing their course work and graduating from BDHS.  Our Advisory program worked to create a better student understanding of their education and how they related to the school as a whole.  We were also able to give students opportunities to see what comes next through both college and career field trips and presentations.  We continued our relationship with LMC and saw a growth of 12 additional students who completed the program and earned credits.  In addition, we continued to offer more programs extra-curricular opportunities for students, including expanding leadership and club, and our championship basketball team that won the league title.

I would like to encourage parent and community members who have questions to call or stop by at any time with their inquiries.  Also, I would like to invite everyone to our Back to School Night on Thursday August 23rd from 4:30-6:30 PM.  It is a great opportunity to meet the staff and come and see what Black Diamond High School is all about.

I am looking forward to working with all of you to make this a wonderful school year for all of our students.
