Ms. Jasmine Strange- Physical Education Teacher/ Coach

Greeting Tiger Team families! My name is Jasmine Strange. I am the daughter of Linda Stingily, long time educator in the Pittsburg community and mother of two children that have successfully completed their education here in the Pittsburg Unified School District. Although I have been in the field of Education/ Coaching for over 26 years, this is my first year here at Martin Luther King Jr. Jr. High School. It has been more than an honor for me to work with such a dynamic team of teachers, adminstrators and most of all your students.

I began my teaching career in 1998 after graduating from the University of Illinois in Chicago. I received a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology/ Allied Health and a minor in Communications/ Public Speaking. I am currently an author and independant recording artist on the side of my career. Prior to this life, I was the captain of my collegiate women's basketball team and went on to play in the Pro- Am as the professional leagues for women's basketball had not yet been developed. From there, I became the head coach at Loyola University Women's Basketball. I was the youngest head coach in the MCC conference at 24 years of age. After having my first child who's now 21 and attending Howard U., I entered into the NEMRT Police Academy in Illionois where I was elected vice president and became a partime police officer while newly entering my teaching career. I received on site "Teacher of the Year at Roosevelt jr. high School where I taught 8th grade History and coached basketball. I moved back to California and proudly took a position at Pittsburg High School teaching freshman English and Physical Education. I was as well the varsity girl's basketball coach. I would again be voted in by the student body as the on site "New Teacher of the Year" 2004/2005. This honor would follow me as I took a position at Riverside High School where I received a certificate for "Most Inspirational Teacher". So, as you see, I have a deep passion for what it is that I do. I have been around the block a many of times since then, including teaching Art and Social Emotional classes at my son's school, The Pacific Boychoir Academy and on to Spectrum where I went back to school and studied as an Educational Sprecialist. It was there that I taught multiple subject matters for 5 plus years. I am now glad to have turned the corner and parked here at MLK!

I have been eager to give back as much as has been given to me through the years, to your students! This year has been absolutely amazing thus far, though I miss our scholars dearly. This has been a hard time for us all I'm sure as our daily routines, expecatations and patterns have been abruptly rerouted. One thing I teach and strongly believe in is the ability to adjust. The world is ever changing and the need to adapt in it is a must, "essential", as they say. I pride myself as a Physical Education Instructor to prepare the mind and body for daily success. I believe my subject matter of P.E. along with writing poems, raps, stories or positive notes combined with the arts and extra curricular activities that your students enjoy will help tremendously in a time such as this. Deep breathing, stretching, exercising, proper eating habits and self reflection will help in your child's overall well being while aiding in prepararing their minds for the academic subject matters that must go forth! I enjoy working hand in hand with our academic teachers to make sure that our scholars are as prepared as they can be! "Take care of your body. It's the only place you have to live!"- Jim Rohn
