Hillview's Community School Strategy
Community Schools offer extensive opportunities that support healthy child, youth development, and family stability.
At Hillview, the collective efforts of youth, parents, businesses, and community organizations create a network of supports that ensure the academic success of its students.
Along with its quality instruction, Hillview Junior high has:
- After school programs
- Linkages to food, shelter and basic needs through our Parent Liaison
- Monthly food pantry
- Connection to on-site health and mental health services for students and their families
- Adult education and recreation such as ESL classes, positive parenting classes, and health education
- Activities and events for families

Community School Coordinator
Darren Gapultos is the Coordinator of Pittsburg Unified's first community school at Hillview Junior High and has been working there since 2014. What Darren enjoys most about Hillview is collaborating with a team of dedicated staff and watching young people become more successful as they transition to high school. Outside of work, Darren enjoys cooking, hiking, and photographing the outdoors. He is a proud Banana Slug from the University of California, Santa Cruz where he received his bachelor's degree in Politics. Darren went on to receive his master's degree in Social Welfare and a Pupil Personnel Services Credential from UC Berkeley.
