  • Returns and Dates:

As always, this message will self destruct when the next email comes out noting the need to make changes. More seriously, this information is good as of May 12th and is subject to change as things change around us. Please continue to be well and to learn.

    • Band Instruments: Please plan to bring them in on Wednesday May, 27th or Friday, May 29th between 9:00 and 11:00 am. There is no detail yet on how this will happen, but the band room is very close to the main gate and so drop off should go smoothly. If you are not picking up food items use the first turn in by the gym.
    • PE Lockers: You may have seen pictures in the news from Pitt where the pickup of uniforms and materials for the lockers was done curbside where everything was laid out in large plastic bags in alphabetical order. I expect we will wee a similar (but better!) effort here at MLK shortly. Friday, May 22nd between 9:00 - noon
    • Hardcover textbook: Please plan to bring then back on Friday, May 22nd between 9:00 and noon.
    • Library books: We have large brown paper recycling bins ready to haul everything up to the library for processing. Remember that anything we collect from you will need to sit for 14 days before it would be reasonable that the virus has died. Please bring library books in on Mondays or Thursdays between 9:00 and 11:00 am.
    • Food products: Sometimes there is additional fruit and vegetables available at curbside. Please pick up packaged breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals on Mondays (for three days) and Thursdays (for two days).

Please check out these dates as well:

    • 8th Grade T-Shits: should already be ordered, coudl see extention to May 15th
    • Yearbook: should be ordered by May 20th
    • 8th Grade Picture baby picture, 8th grade t-shirt, or promotion wear (with medals earned) pictures are due Friday, May 22nd.
    • 8th graders must have all work done by Wednesday, May 27th
    • Promotion will be on June 2nd

Mr. Geoff Borroughs

Hello! I hope as you read this that you and your family are well. People of good character will make good things happen because this life we lead is not about us alone.

Previously I has been available for help most days before school, and have sent all homework home by remind text message. Though this next quarter, I would also like if scholars and parents would text me through remind.com for help with their work. (Sign up for notifications by texting to 81010 with the message:  @MLKsciB1, @MLKsciB2,  @MLKsciB3,  @MLKsciB4,  or @MLKsciB5, depending on which class period your scholar has for Science.  You can also sign up online at www.remind.com/join/MLKsciB#, replacing the "#" with the period number.)  In addition to communicating with me using a chat message through remind, you can email me at gborroughs@pittsburg.k12.ca.us when immediate response is less critical.

There will be no further transfer of information through printed materials. Zoom meetings will continue in April focused on direct instruction of new material earlier in the morning during in the week, and using remind.com to answer questions later on in the week. Start times begin at 10:00pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays with periods 1, 3, and 5 respectively. For 7th grade scholars this will mean learning more about ecosystems and for 8th grade scholars there will be some new material about Solar System motion and before beginning review of viruses.

Links to assignments are also found through Aeries Portal at https://aeriesnet.pittsburg.k12.ca.us/ParentPortal/LoginParent.aspx in the Assignment Description, and in the Assignments tab to the left.

Just a little more about Zoom meeting protocol, which is subject to change as we move forward. For the moment:

Directions to begin with zoom:

  1. Go to zoom.us/join. You will get a meeting ID number(from the assignment tab on this site) and a password (from remind.com). Make sure you have both.
  2. If you use an alias, you will not be allowed into the meeting.
  3. You may have your video off as you join the meeting, and please leave your mic muted until you are sharing.

  • Protocol for zoom: Being Respectful, Responsible and Safe

    • Use chat with others, for asking questions.
    • Show your face, consider virtual backgrounds
    • Participate with reactions, chat
    • Use your notebook, take notes.

¡Hola!

- Muestra tu cara, considera fondos virtuales
- Participa con reacciones, chatea
- Usa tu cuaderno, toma notas.
