Mr. Geoff Borroughs

Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Geoff Borroughs

I am currently assigned as a sixth grade science teacher here at Hillview JHS. I am pleased to be welcomed to Hillview and am looking forward to welcoming you as well.

For access to the classroom, scholars will login at using their PUSD logins. (If you are not sure of your login, please email me at and I will give you your information.)  Once inside you should be able to see my google classroom right away.

I hope as you read this that you and your family are well. We intend that you and yours will learn and succeed through solid online programs. To reach me most quickly it is helpful that you use to send me chat messages and get immediate feedback. For my classes, text to  81010  with the code:  @hillsciq1a  for the A-Cohort and @hillsciq1b fo r Cohort B or go online to or as needed. There is a remind app for both android and iphones, which you can download for free through the playor apple store.

In addition to communicating with me using a chat message through, you can email me at when immediate response is less critical

My background includes a little over 30 years teaching in secondary education here is Pittsburg, leadership in implementing summer college prep science courses, implementing Algebra Academy for high school math, serving as an AVID coordinator for a national demonstration program, developing curriculum for the Mastery Center and High School Diploma programs at PAEC, facilitating as middle school department chair in both math and science, and helping the Summer Mathematics Institute for almost 20 years. We have a track record success in Pittsburg Unified School District that is tough to match. Our success is based on individual attention to each scholar and immediate feedback and support. To help our students succeed we need to build up the individual student's mindset, pride, self-concept and sense of community.

At Hillview, everything we are doing is to help scholars learn and accelerate their understanding  -  knowing that they have our full support in addressing their needs. I look forward to being of help to you. Take care!

Weekly Schedule
  • Platforms

As you know there are a number orf platforms that PUSD has used recently trying to find the right mix to reach parents and support students. Here is the list I will be using:

This platform is the gateway to our google classrooms, from which we access phet labs and, as well as other applications. Within google classroom your student will be doing work involving google docs, sheets, slides, drawing, and forms. to improve your success with this platform it is advisable to use chrome specifically and add on the clever extension. (If you have not done that yet, click here.)

All work done inside while logged in using the student's account will be recorded in Aeries, our district gradebook (click here to go to aeries parent portal). If you do not have access to the parent portal, please email me using the email account you have listed in Aeries and I will get you started. If you want to see progress for your student, please use the student login to clever and take a look.

The actual code for yourself and your student to attend the zoom class will be emailed and is not available on this web page in order to keep security tight. Please notice in the diagram shown below that we will be meeing with Cohorts for Advisory and Periods 1,2, and 3 only in the first quarter. Teaching takes place with the morning zoom and support with the work and recap based on what we have been learning is the focus on zoom after lunch.

It is almost always easier to keep on top of students' work and get ahold of myself using For this first quarter, if your student is imy sciencew class, you can text to 81010 with the code beginning with @ - - - - (followed by the code which will be sent home by email) and if  you would like, you can join online using - - - (filling in the last part of the address with the code).

Beyond that, I may use,, and other chrome extensions within the zoom meeting, but as parents they are not something you need to focus on.
