Syllabus 2022-2023

Welcome!

I am currently assigned as a sixth grade science teacher here at Hillview JHS. 

For access to the classroom, scholars will login at https://clever.com/in/pittsburgusd using their PUSD logins. (If you are not sure of your login, please email me at gborroughs@pittsburgusd.net and I will give you your information.)  Once inside you should be able to see your Google Science Classroom right away. 

I hope as you read this that you and your family are well. We intend that you and yours will learn and succeed through solid curriculum. You can email me at  gborroughs@pittsburgusd.net when immediate response is less critical

My background includes a little over 30 years teaching in secondary education here in Pittsburg, leadership in implementing summer college prep science courses, implementing Algebra Academy for high school math, serving as an AVID coordinator for a national demonstration program, developing curriculum for the Mastery Center and High School Diploma programs at PAEC, facilitating as middle school department chair in both math and then science, and helping the Summer Mathematics Institute for almost 20 years. We have a track record of successes in Pittsburg Unified School District. Our success is based on individual attention to each scholar and immediate feedback and support. To help our students succeed, we need to build up the individual student's mindset, pride, self-concept and sense of community. 

Digitally, most of the work will be in Google Classroom. That means that there are assignments based in Google Docs, Forms, Drawings, and Sheets. There will also be applications used to help students with their writing and reading, including Text-to-Speech, Speech-to-Text, and Video-making. Content will be supported with physical textbooks from Lab Aids entitled Issues and Science for California  which is also available online in Google Classroom, with additional practice found at https://ck12.org, videos found at https://youtube.com,and simulations found at https://phet.colorado.edu  .

Still, to help students with their thinking, including making the learning their own and retaining the information over the long term, the student notebook is critical. To that end, please note that the notebook is kept updated online at https://www.pittsburg.k12.ca.us/Page/12362.
