Ms. Lilonica Becerra

Greetings! I was born in Southern California and moved up here in 2005 for graduate school and decided to make it home. I completed my Masters in Education in 2007 with a focus on social justice and cultural anthropology. I then decided to become a teacher and completed my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential in 2009. Before coming to teach here at Marina Vista, I taught fifth grade in East Oakland for 6 years. I enjoy spending free time with friends and family and am especially fond of horseback riding.

It is my philosophy that teaching should be a real world experience where students use their knowledge to become social activists by making sense of the world around them. Furthermore, my role in this is as a faciliatator of knowledge where students take ownership of their own learning and find a passion to become life-long learners and critical thinkers. I believe in partnering with parents throughout this journey as you know your scholar best. My discipline philosophy centers on relationship building to minimize conflicts and mutual respect. I look forward to working with you to best meet your scholar's needs.

Please reach out to me should you have any questions. ClassDojo and email work best.
