MVE First Grade Remote Learning Plans

    Monday April 6 - Friday April 10, 2020

    Hi Families-

The plans for this week are to follow.  This is the link to see what we will be working on...Inventions!

The page that comes up is the one that we used in our homework, telling you the Unit/Week we are on- Unit 5/Week 3; the special spellings or, oar, ore; spelling words; stories (through Zoom) that we will read together; Genre...remember?!

    Zoom Power Hour

When we return from Spring Break, we will be meeting via Zoom on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10:50 to Noon.  The timing is different, but it was suggested to start at a time that was not common due to the volume of Zoom users. I will send the meeting notifications through ClassDojo.  Parents, please review the lesson plans and we can talk at the start of our Monday Zoom meeting to clarify anything that comes up. My plan is to do mini lessons- ½ hour of ELA and a ½ hour of Math.  This is still being figured out on my part! If you could set your child up with access to paper, a pencil and crayons while we are on our Zoom call, that would be great! We will be doing some writing, show me games and such so they will need to be able to do this.  Monday’s call will be to see what we can and can’t do, then to go from there! I am sure that we all are about to learn a lot!!

This is the next resource that can be accessed directly through the web page.  If possible, you may want to print. If unable to print, please complete on regular paper.  Typing and emailing will work, too! For this week, here is the link for the packet that we will be working with. This packet is totally optional-

Parents- the first 3 pages of the above document is for you.  Please read to familiarize yourself with the packet.  If possible, print the packet. If not able to print, please complete as best as you can.

Day 1 of Spring Break is this Friday April 10.   We return to Remote Learning on Monday April 20, 2020

During the break, read! Everything! Play board games, have family breakfast, lunches and/or dinners, play outside, log into Clever, do any work that didn’t get finished from last week or the week before, or…just enjoy your time together!

Wishing you all a safe, healthy break!  Stay well!

    Dear Families,

I miss you all!  Super excited to share with you that I have a Teacher web page through PUSD!  Here is the link:  I have created lesson plans to help guide your student learning at home. The items listed below are what we do in class.  There are many resources for you to use and you are welcomed to use all of them or just some of them. Do what works best for your family.  Here are some simple instructions that pertain to the lesson outline. Do daily with your child. Wednesday is UnPlug Day- all lessons will be pencil paper or manipulative or game based.  If you are not able to print, do your best with pencil and paper.

    • Calendar & weather (life skill)  This is how we start our day in class!
    • High frequency words (if your child mastered both kinder list and 1st grade list, move onto the second grade list)
    • Letter names, sounds, blends, silent e and long vowels (builds foundation for reading & spelling)
    • Phonics & Phonemic Awareness (builds foundation of reading)
    • Read daily (your child needs to do the reading)
    • Write daily (your child needs to do the writing), then present to family.
    • Read & talk about the story (comprehension)
    • Apps found in Clever - i-Ready, Imagine Learning, Freckles, Splash Math, Flash Math -used for practicing reading or math skills & assessments.
    • Counting & writing to 120 by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, 10’s.
    • Practice Math Facts by making them yourself on index cards or paper.
    • Exercise -I took some ideas from Mr. Jackman.  Please balance this out with being inside and outside, adjust as needed.
    • Music -we have a new Music teacher -Ms. Salvador!  Go to her Webpage for activities.

Each activity can range from 10-30 mins. Try to have fun with this.  Give me feedback as we go- by Thursday so I can adjust for the following week.  As a family you can do this all in one sitting or break it up throughout the day. Do what works best for your families! Please reach out if you need explanations. You can contact me to answer questions that come up M-F 8:00-3PM.  Directions to access Clever are on my web page and ClassDojo. We will get through this together!
