  • Khan Academy

Posted by Nico Passalacqua on 4/27/2020 10:30:00 AM

This week in Khan Academy we wil focus on dividng fractions by whole numbers and dividing whole numbers by fractions.

The videos on Khan Academy work to help students understand the concept of dividing fractions and whole numbers. These videos can be a bit confusing, and that's okay. It is a challenging concept. Stick with them, trying to avoid the video link below.

    • This may look more familiar, Dividing Fractions and Whole Numbers. However, this isn't teaching students the conceptual understanding of dividing fractions and whole numbers. This is simply a three step trick to find the solution.
    • The idea is for students to understand the reasoning behind this trick.
    • Bring your questions to Zoom tomorrow, Tuesday, April 28th @ 10:00 a.m.

    HIGHLANDS ELEMENTARY PHYSICAL EDUCATION 3RD, 4TH, 5TH GRADES 3/6-3/10

Hello Highlands Vikings.  All Vikings will be working out in their homes.  I have taught you how to stay strong and healthy.  Just follow the indoor physical education classes that you have participated in over the years and we will adapt our lessons for home.

Everyone begin your day with the indoor warm-up.

    1.  20 or more sit ups.  Work on your personal best!

    2.  20 or more push ups.

    3.  10 burpies or jumping jacks or both.

    4.  Stretch from head to feet.  (just like we do in class)

This weeks lesson is on eye hand coordination.  I want you to get a bean bag or a pair of socks rolled up.  you can also use a small soft ball if you have one.  If you are inside for this entire lesson, be careful of your surroundings when you begin tossing and catching.  Gentle movement so you don’t break anything.

    1.  Practicing tossing and catching with both hands then 1 hand at a time.  Try this while you are standing, sitting and laying on your back.

    2.  Catch the ball or bean bag with different body parts, for example catch it on your elbow.

    3.  Make up an indoor game and teach it to your family.  Write down the lesson and share it with me.

Finish your P.E. Class with some slow stretching and relaxation.  Play some slow calming music, for example sounds of the ocean, or birds or the rain forest.  Sit or lay down and stretch from head to toe like we do in class.  Shut your eyes for a final relaxation period.  Picture yourself in your favorite place.  Somewhere like the beach or the forest.  Take deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth.  Try to get your heart rate to calm down to resting.  After 3-5 minutes, roll onto your side and push up to sitting.  Get on your knees and roll up slowly one vertebra at a time to a standing position.

You are now ready to have a good day or a relaxing evening.  Remember to exercise every day to stay healthy.

    Mrs. Ryan
