    Parent Engagement for Fall Semester (August 2020 - December 2020):




    Distance Learning Parent Webinar--The webinar will cover an overview of Clever, Zoom, Google Classroom, Teacher Web Pages, Parent Portal, & Monitoring Student Success. There are two sessions to choose from.

     Self Care for Parents Workshop--We will focus on the main 6 areas of self-care that will support you in creating a well-balanced lifestyle, especially through our new way of life during Covid-19 times . Self-care is important to maintain a healthy relationship with yourself, family & friends. This presentation will include hands-on activities, resources, tips and hints to excel in Distance Learning, and working from home. Registration is required.



     Suicide Awareness Parent Workshop--Learn about the risk factors, recent statistics, and the strategies used to prevent suicide. We will also discuss the available local and online resources for families.



    Reducing Stress & Anxiety--Join us to learn about the causes and consequences of stress and anxiety in ourselves and our children. During this session, you will learn different tools you can use at home to prevent and to calm stress and anxiety, and also when and how to seek professional help. School, community, and online resources will also be discussed. 



     Vape Pens and Teens: What Our Community Needs to Know--This webinar will provide an overview of the latest tobacco products used by young people. Adult and youth presenters will discuss the history of electronic smoking devices (vape pens), as well as the current products on the market. We will cover how they work, how the tobacco industry targets young people, health effects, and what we are still learning about these popular and dangerous devices.  This informational workshop is brought to you by the Contra Costa County Office of Education.  Registration is required.



    Tandem Early Literacy Workshops--Tandem staff will provide an interactive workshop for parent (caregiver) & child on various topics including building vocabulary, social & emotional understanding, and phonological awareness.  Each week will have a specific focus.     Mindfulness Parent Workshops--Participants will learn the benefits of Mindfulness to maintain a positive mental health and will practice Mindfulness techniques. Registration is required. 



    Parenting the Adolescent /Parent Webinars—These parenting webinars are for PUSD parents of adolescents (up to 17 years of age).  The workshops are facilitated in English and utilize Positive Parenting strategies and give parents practices to implement at home with their adolescent.     Early Childhood Parenting Seminars— These webinars are for PUSD parents with children between the ages of 0-5. The workshops focus on positive discipline strategies, managing challenging behaviors, and exploring developmentally appropriate strategies to support the young child.  The sessions are facilitated in English on Monday evenings from 6pm-7:30pm.      Got Clean Air? Informational workshopsHave you ever wondered what the air quality in Pittsburg is like or how the air quality can impact your health (especially if you have asthma, allergies, or respiratory illnesses)? Join us for these informational workshops facilitated by a partnership with La Clinica and funded through the Bay Area Air Quality Management organization.   There are 4 different sessions available.



    Anti-bullying, anti-harassment and anti-hate crime awareness--Learn about the school district policies and practices to prevent bullying, harassment and hate-crimes, in any form, and how each of these is addressed if they occur. School, community, and online resources will also be discussed.



    Getting the Vote Out!--Participants will learn why voting is important, updates about ways to vote, important voter deadlines, & registering to vote. No candidates or propositions will be discussed. 



    Healthcare Options--Participants will learn how to apply for healthcare programs including Medical, Covered California & Contra Costa Cares, as well as what help is available to complete a healthcare application. This is offered through a partnership with La Clinica.  


    Asthma Management during COVID-19 times—Participants will learn strategies to manage asthma during COVID-19 times including managing asthma triggers (air quality, allergies, emotional stress). These workshops are offered in collaboration with the Prescott-Joseph Center.

    Know the 1, 2, 3's of COVID-19--Participants will learn how COVID-19 spreads, what it is, & COVID-19 safety measures (masks, social distancing, and handwashing). This is offered through a partnership with La Clinica.  




    Early Childhood Triple P (Positive Parenting Program)—This 7-week series is for PUSD parents with children 0-5 years of age.  The series focuses on fostering overall development, promoting positive behavior, and setting realistic expectations for the young child.  The series is facilitated in English.   



    Elementary Age Triple P (Positive Parenting Program)—This 7-week series is for PUSD parents with children in elementary schools (up to 12 years old).  The program focuses on using positive discipline strategies, managing difficult behaviors, teaching children problem resolution skills, and setting realistic expectations that work for your child & family.
