Mick McCoy

My name is Mick McCoy. I have taught GED and math at Pittsburg Adult Education since 2011 except for one year when I served as a 6th grade math teacher at Bay Tech in Oakland. I enjoy teaching and working with Adult Learners. It is a privilege and joy to see our adult learners grasp difficult algebraic concepts and use that knowledge to embark upon a chosen college or career path after graduation.

I currently provide direct instruction for both day and evening classes in Algrebra. My students are pursuing GED or High School diplomas along with the soft skills necessary to have successful careers that will contribute to society. I tell my students that I am actually teaching life skills through math such as precision, persistence, and logic.

I was a senior pastor for 20 years, having planted two churches that grew to over 200 congregants each. Before that, I was a Sergeant in the Marine Corps where I repaired three-dimensional radars for the MACS II Air Squadron in Hawaii. I was also part owner of a coffee house in Hawaii during the 70’s where I sang the blues and coordinated entertainment  on a weekly basis.
