I hope you and your family are doing well. In response to the COVID-19 school dismissal for the next three weeks, I have created some assignments to help keep you engaged during this time:
IF YOU RECEIVED YOUR STUDYSYNC BOOK ON FRIDAY:
- Do your DO NOWs (bit.ly/eng8donow)
- Choose 4 passages 6 passages to read and answer the Think and Focus Questions for each of those passages (I had to add 2 more passages because they extended the closure to three weeks).
- Use the Suggested Daily Agenda to help you stagger your work so you are not overwhelmed.
IF YOU WERE ABSENT ON FRIDAY AND DID NOT RECEIVE YOUR STUDYSYNC BOOK:
- Do your DO NOWs (bit.ly/eng8donow).
- Go to bit.ly/holzwork for the Suggested Daily Agenda.
- Follow the agenda so by the end, you will have read 6 total passages and do you Think and Focus Questions (handwritten or submitted online).
If you would like, you may pick up a hard copy of the StudySync book if your access to the internet is limited. If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reply and send me an email.
All the best,

Degrees and Certifications:
Master's Degree in Education Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics with a minor in Education and Applied Psychology
My name is Misha Holz, and I am an English teacher at Hillview Junior High School. As a sixth year teacher here at Hillview, I am confident that my previous experiences in the classroom have prepared me for this position.
By way of background, I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree and high honors from UC Santa Barbara with a major in Linguistics and a minor in Education and Applied Psychology. As a tutor and an advocate for education, I continued my studies to pursue my Master’s Degree in Education and a teaching credential in English at UC Santa Barbara. My graduate studies were pursuant to the prestigious Woodrow Wilson–Rockefeller Brothers Fellowship, which provided me with an ample stipend in exchange for three years of teaching at a high need school after receiving my teaching credential. Teaching is my passion, inspired in part by some of the outstanding teachers that I had as a student. I assure you that I will do my best to make your child’s classroom experience meaningful, productive, and memorable.
When not teaching, I enjoy watching movies, TV shows, and reading books; my favorite movie is Stardust, based on Neil Gaiman's novel of the same title, while my favorite books include John Steinbeck's East of Eden, Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, and Meg Cabot's The Mediator series. These are just some of the things that I enjoy, but I am also an avid fan of both film and book versions of Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter and all kinds of board games. Aside from watching movies, reading books, and playing board games, I also enjoy taking care of my nearly one year old son and spending time with my husband and pet birds.
