Curriculum & Instruction Overview
Welcome to the Curriculum & Instruction Department. Our commitment is to work closely with school sites to ensure that the highest quality curriculum, instructional strategies, and materials are provided to all students. The department provides professional development opportunities for all staff, facilitates textbook adoptions, and provides ongoing review of course content to ensure alignment to state standards.
We also work closely with our data management system to analyze assessment results in order to improve instruction. All of this work is articulated with preschool through 12 grade teachers and administrators. The department also helps facilitate partnerships between schools, parents, and the community aimed at high student achievement.
Resolution #16-07: Determination of Sufficiency of Textbooks or Instructional Materials. For the 2016-17 school year, the Pittsburg Unified School District has provided each pupil with sufficient textbooks and instructional materials aligned to the academic content standards and consistent with the cycles and content of the curriculum frameworks.
Standards & Frameworks
Content standards were designed to encourage the highest achievement of every student, by defining the knowledge, concepts, and skills that students should acquire at each grade level.
Frameworks are blueprints for implementing the content standards adopted by the California State Board of Education and are developed by the Curriculum Development and Supplemental Materials Commission.
These resources include print, graphic, and electronic materials that provide models of authentic language use, including academic language, in authentic contexts. And these instructional resources expand parents' ability to communicate with teachers, to actively engage in their children's schooling, and to participate meaningfully in educational decision making.
