Mrs. Kaleena Afonso
I am delighted to be your child’s teacher for this school year. Kindergarten is a time for new beginnings, making new friends, and learning lots of new things every day. Our days and weeks will be filled with many wonderful experiences and opportunities for learning and growing. I am happy to be a part of your child’s educational journey. I look forward to a very exciting and productive year!
I have been in the teaching field for over fifteen years. I have taught Kindergarten for seven years. I have also taught first grade for a total of six years. I am married and have two children of my own. My eldest, Jasiah is currently in sixth grade and my youngest, Kayleeanna is in kindergarten. I have two fur babies, Stella is a sweet German shepard border collie rescue dog and Bandit a cute black and white stray cat that adopted my family. I also have four feather friends. Their names are Chicken, Nut, Bread and Flower. My favorite places to be besides of course being with my family and in the classroom with the kiddos are the beach and Disneyland. I think I may have been a mermaid princess in a past life. he/he I joke.
Kindergarten is a year of growing socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. Your involvement, interest and enthusiasm will help make this a wonderful year of growth for your child. A child’s first and most important teacher is his or her parent. We’ll be partners in your child’s formal education. Communication between parents and teacher is essential. So, let's be sure to stay connected! If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email kafonso@pittsburg.k12.ca.us or kafonso@pittsburgusd.net or call (925) 473-2430 or send a message via ClassDojo.
Your child will learn about letter identification/recognition and letter sounds as we learn to read. We will be doing lots of writing activities as well. We will explore the world of numbers and build important math foundational concepts. We will also have fun experimenting with science and social science. You will find that the process is more important than the product because learning is accomplished by doing, touching and experiencing. Be sure to talk with your child about their day, ask them “What was their favorite part of learning today” and be sure to celebrate their accomplishments.
I encourage you to become actively involved as a Dolphin parent at Stoneman Elementary! Your aid in our virtual classroom and in person classroom is greatly appreciated. Together we can create an amazing learning experience for each and every child. This will be an amazing year!
