• 6th GRADE SCIENCE VIRUS UNIT CULMINATING PROJECT

    Infographic, Public Service Announcement and Presentation

    Learning Objective: The scholar will engage in activities that promote critical thinking and good decision making when faced with a highly infectious virus. The scholars will learn what a virus is and how they reproduce. The scholar will create a visual that serves their home. 

     

    Introduction to the Project: The scholar will construct an argument supported with data showing that “changes to physical or biological components of an ecosystem affects populations” by providing claim, evidence and reasoning for the one of the following question(s): 

    • What are the hypothesized origins of Covid-19 and how did it spread? 
    • How has much of the world’s human population staying in place affect other organisms? US Population?
    • How has much of the world’s human population staying in place affect the environment?
    • What do you think will happen if the Stay in Place Order is abandoned by States too early?
    • A virus question of your choice.

    1. Scholars will choose one of the following questions as their research question (Due April 24th):
    • What are the hypothesized origins of Covid-19 and how did it spread? 
    • How has much of the world’s human population staying in place affect other organisms? US Population? Why do you think this is happening? How could we improve it?
    • How has much of the world’s human population staying in place affect the environment? Show data (tables and graphs) that show changes in Greenhouse Gases and explain what you notice.
    • What do you think will happen if the Stay in Place Order is abandoned by States too early? Use evidence and reasoning to defend your argument.
    • A virus question of your choice.

         

           2. Create an Infographic (see the slide presentation) (Due May 11th)

     

          3. Create a 30 second Public Service Announcement (PSA)  about preventing the spread of Coronavirus. In your video, start with: “I am ______________ a sixth grade scholar at Martin Luther King Jr. Junior High School and I have a message for you regarding Coronavirus, the virus that caused COVID-19.” Use visual aids and family members to help you with your PSA. (Due May 12th)

     

         4. Create a brief slide presentation answering your question. Include your public service announcement and your infographic into the slide presentation. (Due May 12th)
