Ms. Nicole Glassel

There have been major influences in my life that led me to the career path of teaching.  The children are the first reason why I wanted to go into teaching. The smiles on their faces, their contagious giggles, and their candid conversations make it all worthwhile. Other factors that influenced my teaching decision were the corporate careers I’ve had that made me appreciate my true calling, along with media and society.

I knew at a young age that I wanted to be a teacher. I wanted to make a difference in someone’s life and will continue to do so as long as I can. In high school, I was a 1st and 2nd grade teacher at my synagogue and later worked at the local elementary school throughout college. I went to the University of Oregon and majored in sociology with minors in journalism and Spanish. Go DUCKS!

After graduating college, I returned to California and sidetracked into the corporate world which I don’t regret for a second. I didn’t want to be a statistic and burn out in less than five years. My time in Los Angeles working at a post-production facility, and my time in San Francisco working in advertising, gave me real life experiences that I bring to the classroom on a daily basis. I decided to go back to school and obtain my multiple- subject teaching credential along with a masters in education with an emphasis on curriculum and instruction. In addition, I hold an Administrative Credential.

This is my 21st year at Los Medanos and have tremendously enjoyed the daily buzz and excitement that fly through our hallways. There is so much energy between the staff and students with an enormous thirst for knowledge. I am on several committees and take pleasure in the diverse aspects of each of them. I consider myself to be the social staff captain cheerleader. I head up our social committee and take care of special events for our Los Medanos Association. In addition, I love being grade level lead and take part in multiple district committees. It’s fascinating to me that I seem to carry my high school superlatives through life, as I was voted for best sense of humor, most sarcastic, and most social! Go figure!

In the outside world when I’m not going to book club, weddings, or baby showers, I am a dedicated daughter, sister, and friend. I am responsible for all my high school reunions, social get togethers, and annual vacations.

I love skiing in the winter, swimming in the summer, and relaxing in Napa in between.  I try to get to New York and go to SF often, as I can’t get enough of musical theater and absolutely love singing in my car! I have also traveled extensively to countries such as Mexico, Spain, Italy, France, England, and Israel. My next stop is Australia, Ireland, and Greece.  Television, (post production and movies) is still a passion, as I’m always keeping up with the latest and greatest from my L.A. connections on tap.

I was born in San Francisco and raised in the East Bay. Most of my family is local and we visit each other often! I intend to stay in education and the bay area for as long as possible. I strive for the best and want my students to know there is no limit. I hope to make a difference in every one of my students’ lives, as there have been countless positive influences that have impacted my own life!
