  • Dear Graduates and Families of the Class of 2020,

I know the message yesterday about having a virtual graduation caused a lot of mixed emotions. I want to take this opportunity to give you some more context. It is important for us to have a graduation for the entire Class of 2020. Due to the current health department restrictions, we cannot have an in-person ceremony on June 7th. Some of our graduates may be leaving for early college, military service, or other post-secondary options. As I have stated previously, If we are able to also have an in-person one later in the summer or another date, we can. The reality is that date may not come soon or it may come at a date when some or many of our graduates cannot attend. Planning for a virtual graduation allows us to have a graduation that honors the entire class of 2020. We also have to start planning in order to be able to have the virtual ceremony, as with any ceremony there are logistics and timelines to meet.

I know this is hard and I wish I could give you a different message.  We all love these events and I know this is the hardest for our Graduates and their Families. This is a life-stage moment and we will do our best to give you a thoughtful, meaningful, and classy experience.  Again when things change we will work to arrange an in person graduation.

  • Dear Graduates and Families of the Class of 2020,

I know this has been an incredibly challenging and disappointing Senior Spring Semester. I truly wish things were different for you during this important milestone in your life and that you could have traditional celebrations and time together as a class. All of us love the spring activities and we know this is hard.

I also know you are waiting to hear how we will celebrate and honor your accomplishments through our graduation ceremony. We have decided to move forward with planning a virtual graduation ceremony for both high schools and will work to make this a special event. Our decisions must be driven by the health advisories in place. Even if some restrictions are lifted from the current shelter-in-place order, they will not allow for in-person gatherings of the size we have for our graduating classes. We know nothing can replace the in-person experience of a graduation and we ask for you to be open to this new experience. What does a virtual graduation look like? It actually looks pretty cool! We will be able to pre-record student speeches to show and have pictures of each of you. Both virtual ceremonies will be held on Sunday, June 7th, at different times. Along with the live virtual viewing, it will also be available as a recording for each of you to watch anytime. Ms. Spinnato will follow up with you for the details for PHS and Mr. Wilson will follow up with you for the details for Black Diamond.

We will arrange times during the week of June 8th, for you to pick up your diploma. Details will come from your school’s administration.

If the situation changes later and the restrictions allow us to have large gatherings later in the summer, we will absolutely plan to have an in-person celebration.

Thank you for being such an incredible class. You are truly ground-breaking in many ways and you give us all great hope for the future!
