Dear Parents and Scholars,

Welcome back to another exciting year of listening, learning, and legacy building.

This is only the sixth year in the history of our school and we look forward to introducing our new 6^th graders and other new scholars to our wonderful campus.  You will soon find out that our 7^th and 8^th grade scholars are serious about their education and they will be more than happy to show you around campus.

Our scholars are educated through teaching and learning to be college and career ready.  Our dedicated and knowledgeable Tiger TEAM will prepare our scholars both academically and socially through a rigorous curriculum while providing several opportunities for fun activities with their peers. We are determined to guide our scholars into an awareness of their potential to become more than they now imagine.

In this planner you will find rules and regulations from both our district and school.   Please familiarize yourself with these expectations.  The student planner serves other purposes as well:

• To increase and facilitate communication between home and school
• To further personalize communication between teachers and scholars
• To assist scholars with study skills

Our parents have several opportunities to connect with us by attending a variety of meetings each month such as the School Site Council, Parent Club, Band Boosters, English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC), Parental African American Achievement Collaborative Team (PAAACT), and a variety of parent workshops.  There will also be other opportunities to volunteer throughout the school year.  Please continue to remain involved in your child's education during these very critical years as our scholars transition from junior high to high school, high school to college and then to life as an independent and productive citizen.

As we embark upon this new year, we are now more aware of the responsibilities that we have in our school community.  Please consider becoming an active participant as we continue serving our community through days of service and community celebrations.  Please join me as we aspire to carry on the DREAM of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on our journey at 2012 Carion Court!

Estimados Padres/Tutores,

Bienvenidos a otro año de escuchar, aprender, y creando legados.

Este es solo el sexto año en la historia de nuestra escuela y estamos gustosos en presentar a nuestros nuevos alumnos de 6to u otros nuevos alumnos nuestra escuela. Pronto aprenderán que los alumnos del 7 y 8 están muy enfocados en su educación y estarán más que gustosos ensenarles la escuela.

Nuestros alumnos están educados para estar preparados para el colegio. Nuestro Esquipo de Tigre están dedicados y muy sabios en preparar nuestros alumnos académicamente y socialmente con el currículo mientras proveyéndoles varias actividades de disfrutar con sus amistades. Estamos determinados en guiar nuestros alumnos con la consciencia de su potencial de ser más de lo que se imaginan.

En este cuaderno encontrara reglas escolares igual del distrito. Por favor reconozcan cuales son las esperanzas. El cuaderno sirve otros propósitos también:

* Aumentar y facilitar comunicación entre casa y escuela

* Para mejor comunicar los maestros con alumnos

Nuestros padres tienen varias oportunidades de conectarse con nosotros asistiendo una variedad de reuniones cada mes, como el Concilio Escolar (SSC), Club de Padres, Band Boosters, Aprendices del Inglés (ELAC), Equipo Colaborativo para Logro de Padres Africano Americano (PAAACT), y una variedad de talleres para padres. ATTENDANCE POLICY

School Absences

Scholars are expected to attend school regularly. Academic success and achievement begin with a commitment to being punctual and prepared for the rigors of school. Maintaining this high standard will positively affect a student’s progress and grades as well as reinforce a strong work ethic for the future.

Regular attendance and punctuality are key elements in determining success at Martin Luther King, Jr. Junior High School. Poor or sporadic attendance will negatively affect class progress and grades. Parents/guardians are encouraged to call the school or use the parent portal to check their student(s) attendance at any time.

It is extremely important that parents call (925) 473-2500 ext. 3507 or send a note of excuse whenever their child is absent from school. Failure to do so will not only cause an unexcused absence, but will also affect the student's grades.  We request that parent/guardian call the attendance office before 9:30am to clear each absence. Absences must be cleared within 48 hours or they will be considered “unexcused”. The phone message or note of excuse should include the following:

• the first and last name of the student
• the date(s) of the absence
• the reason for the absence
• the first and last name (and signature) and relationship (parent, guardian, aunt/uncle) of the person submitting the excuse

Excused absences are those due to: Student’s illness, medical, optical or dental appointments, funeral of immediate family members, religious holidays and mandatory court appearances. Students will have the opportunity (and expectation) to make up work missed for all excused absences.

A student is considered truant when he/she is absent from school without a valid excuse for more than three (3) full days in one school year, or the student is tardy or absent for thirty minutes or more of school during the school day without a valid excuse on three (3) separate occasion within a single school year. Students with recurring absences (9 or more excused absences) will be required to provide verification of illness from a doctor.

The families of students with recurring absences will receive three attendance warning letters (the first letter is advisory, the second letter is to be followed up by the student’s counselor, the third letter is to be followed up by a vice principal). Students whose behavior fails to improve after the third letter will be referred to the School Attendance Review Board (SARB). Students who are absent for 10 consecutive days will be dropped

Families will be notified by the automated dialer when students miss one or more classes during the day.

POLIZA DE ASISTENCIA

Ausencias de Escuela

Esperamos que los alumnos asistan a la escuela regularmente. El éxito y logro académico comienzan con un compromiso de ser puntual y estar preparados para los rigores escolares. Manteniendo este estándar afectara positivamente el progreso y calificaciones de los alumnos al igual reforzará una ética de trabajo en el futuro.

Asistencia y puntualidad regular son muy importantes en determinar el éxito en la escuela Martin Luther King, Jr., Junior High. Mala asistencia afectara negativamente el progreso de clase y calificaciones. Padres/tutores son invitados a llamarnos a la escuela o utilizar el portal de padres para revisar la asistencia de su hijo/hija a cualquier momento.

Es muy importante que padres llamen (925) 473-2500 ext. 3507 o manden una nota de justificación cuando su alumno falte a la escuela. Ausencias injustificadas afectaran las calificaciones de los alumnos. Pedimos que los padres/tutores llamen a la oficina antes de las 9:30am para justificar las ausencias. Las ausencias tienen que ser justificadas dentro de 48 horas. Si no, se consideran “injustificadas”. Un mensaje o nota de justificación debe incluir lo siguiente:

• el nombre y apellido del estudiante
• las fechas de la ausencia
• la razón por la ausencia
• el nombre y apellido (y firma) y relación (padres, tutores, tío/tía) de la persona justificando la ausencia

Una ausencia justificada seria por: alumno enfermo, cita médica, cita óptica o cita dental, funeral de miembros inmediatos de la familia, día festivo religioso y citas de corte. Estudiantes tendrán la oportunidad (y son requeridos) de hacer cualquier trabajo y tarea que faltaron por la ausencia.  

Un alumno es considerado “truant” cuando está ausente de la escuela por más de tres (3) días completos en un año escolar sin justificación, o el alumno llega tarde por más de 30 minutos en tres ocasiones separadas en un año escolar. Los estudiantes con ausencias frecuentes (9 o más faltas justificadas) serán requeridos a traer una nota de un doctor.  

Las familias de estudiantes con ausencias frecuentes recibirán tres notas de aviso (el primer aviso es consultivo, la segunda tiene que hablar con el consejero del estudiante, y la tercera tiene que hablar con el sub director). Los estudiantes quienes no mejoran la asistencia después del tercer aviso, serán referidos al SARB. Los estudiantes que falten 10 días consecutivos sin justificación serán eliminados de nuestras listas.  

Se les avisaran a las familias por teléfono cuando un estudiante falte una clase o más en un día escolar.

Leaving School Early

To leave school before dismissal Martin Luther King, Jr. Junior High students must have a parent/guardian sign them out in the office. Students will not be called from class until the parent/guardian appears at the school. In order for a person other than a parent/guardian to sign out a student, they must be over 18 (with ID) and be listed on the emergency card.

Please note that if a student leaves the school grounds without a parent/guardian signature the student will be recorded as truant. Students must report to the office upon their return to school and be signed in by a parent/guardian.

Tardy Policy

We encourage promptness in our scholars daily. They are at a disadvantage when they arrive late to any class period because they miss important opening activities which set the tone for the period. Students with excessive tardiness will be subject to administrative consequences including but not limited to detention and/or Community Service hours. They may be referred to the School Attendance Review Board (SARB). Daily detentions for scholars who are tardy began last year. Any scholar tardy will be reported to the office and assigned a lunchtime detention each time they are tardy.

Visitors on Campus

Parents/Guardians are welcome to visit Martin Luther King, Jr., Junior High School during the school day. Please enter through the Administration (A) building and sign-in in the office (even if you are just turning in your child’s homework or bringing lunch money). The office staff will give you a visitor’s pass. After you have finished your visit, please return to the office to sign-out.

After signing in and receiving a visitors badge you are welcome to observe your child in class or eat lunch with them. If you would like to volunteer on campus please call (925) 473-2500 ext. 3519 to speak to the Family & Parent Liaison. (Ana Perez)

If you would like to speak with a teacher or administrator please call (925) 473-2500 to schedule an appointment.

Medication at School

If it is necessary for a scholar to take medication at school, a “Permit to Take Medicine in School” form must be on file in the office (available in the office and on the PUSD website). Medication must be stored in the office. A staff member will assist students required to take medication and document time administered. Parents/guardians are responsible for refilling their child’s prescriptions.

Salida de Escuela Temprano

Con fin de que su alumno salga de la escuela antes del timbre de salida, necesitamos que un padre/tutor firme en la oficina. Los estudiantes no se llamaran de su clase hasta que no llegue un padre/tutor a la oficina de la escuela. Para que una persona que no es padre/tutor del estudiante pueda firmar, tienen que ser mayor de 18 (con identificación) y en la lista de contactos (tarjeta de emergencia).  

Por favor note que si su alumno se va de la escuela sin firma de padre/tutor el estudiante será reportado como “truant”. Los estudiantes deben reportarse a la oficina cuando regresen a la escuela y los padres/tutores tienen que firmar que han regresado.

Póliza de Tardanza

Motivamos la puntualidad en nuestros alumnos diariamente. Están en desventaja cuando llegan a cualquier clase tarde porque pierden actividades importantes para esa clase. Los estudiantes con tardanzas excesivas serán sujetos a consecuencias administrativas incluyendo, pero no limitado a, detención y/o horas de Servicio Comunitario. Serán referidos a la mesa directiva de SARB en el Distrito Escolar de Pittsburg. Detenciones diarias para estudiantes quienes llegan tarde a clase comenzó el año escolar pasado. Cualquier alumno quien llegue tarde a clase será reportado a la oficina y recibirá detención durante el almuerzo cada vez que lleguen tarde.  

VISITANTES EN LA ESCUELA

Padres/Tutores son bienvenidos a visitar la Escuela Secundaria Martin Luther King, Jr., durante el día escolar. Por favor pase a la oficina (Edificio A) y firme (aunque solamente este entregando un libro y trayendo dinero para almuerzo). El personal de la oficina le dará un pase de visitante. Después de que termine con su visita, por favor regrese a la oficina a firmar su salida.  

Después de firma y recibir un pase, usted es bienvenido/a observar a su hijo/a en clase o pasar su almuerzo con ellos. Si le gustaría ser voluntario en nuestra escuela, por favor llame (925) 473-2500 ext. 3519 para hablar con nuestro Enlace de padres Ana Perez.

Medicamentos en la escuela

Si es necesario que un alumno tome medicamentos en la escuela, una forma de “Permiso Para Tomar Medicamentos en la Escuela” tiene que ser entregado a la oficina (forma disponible en la oficina o en www.pittsburg.k12.ca.us). Medicamentos deben ser mantenidos en la oficina. Un miembro del personal asistirá a los estudiantes con su medicamento y documentaran el horario. Padres/Tutores son responsables de reemplazar medicamentos.  

School Uniform Policy

Research has demonstrated that school uniforms increase attention in class and decrease inappropriate behaviors at school. They also provide a sense of community and help to build school pride. Beyond that, school uniforms help to keep the campus safe because outsiders can be readily identified.

Students must wear:

• White long or short sleeve collared and buttoned polo shirt
• Navy blue shorts/pants (boys/girls)
• Navy blue skort/skirt/jumper (girls)
• White, navy blue, black, gray or purple lanyard with school ID

Students may wear:

• White, navy blue, black, gray or purple solid color jackets, sweaters, or sweatshirts.
• White, navy blue, black, gray or purple solid color long or short sleeved under shirts
• White, navy blue, black, gray or purple solid color hats/caps (outdoors only)

Students may NOT wear:

• Clothing with stripes, checks, dots, pictures, logos (except MLKJJHS logo), or writing (for example “boobie” belts/ bracelets)
• Pants/Shorts/Skirts that are too short (must be longer than finger tips), too loose (No “sagging”: underwear/shorts may not be visible), or too tight
• Shirts that are too long (must be shorter than finger tips) or too tight
• PE uniform (Shorts, Shirt) in classes other than PE
• Sweatpants over uniform pants
• Sheer (see-through) or denim (jean) clothing
• Predominantly red items (including but not limited to: socks, shoes, scarves, backpacks)
• Bandanas, do-rags, hair rollers, rosary beads
• Slippers, Flip-Flops, Slides

Scholars who are not in uniform will receive consequences. The first time they are out of uniform they will report to the office, receive a copy of the uniform policy, call home to let family know, and be given a formal warning (recorded in discipline record). Additional uniform violations will result in progressive disciplinary actions such as: phone call(s) home, community service hour(s), On Campus Suspension (OCS), meetings with counselor/administrator, and may be referred to the School Attendance Review Board (SARB). Additionally scholars out of uniform will be assigned to lunchtime detention each time they are out of uniform.

POLIZA DE UNIFORME ESCOLAR

Investigaciones han demostrado que los uniformes escolares aumentan la atención en clase y disminuyen comportamientos inapropiados en la escuela. También proveen un sentido comunitario y ayudan a formar orgullo escolar. Aparte de eso, los uniformes escolares ayudan a mantener la escuela segura, porque se identifica fácilmente cuando alguien que no pertenece a nuestra escuela entra.  

Estudiantes deben usar:

• Camisa polo blanca de manga corta o larga con cuello
• Pantalón/Pantalón corto azul marino (niños/niñas)
• Falda azul marina (niñas)
• Cordón blanco, azul marino, negro, gris o morado con identificación de escuela.

Estudiantes pueden usar:

• Suéteres, chaquetas, sudaderas blanca, azul marino, gris o morado color solido
• Camisas debajo del uniforme blanca, azul marino, gris o morado color solido
• Gorras/Cachuchas blancas, azul marino, gris o morado color solido (afuera solamente)

Estudiantes NO podrán usar:

• Ropa con líneas, marcas, fotos, logos (menos el logo de MLKJJHS), o escriture (por ejemplo fajos o pulseras de “boobie”)
• Pantalones/pantalón corto/faldas que están muy cortos (tienen que ser más largo que la punta de los dedos cuando las manos están a su lado), muy flojos (no pantalones “bajos”: ropa interior/shorts no se deben ver), o muy apretado
• Blusas que son muy largas (debe ser más corta que la punta de los dedos cuando las mando están a sus lados) o muy apretada
• Uniforme de Educación Física (Pantalón Corto, Camiseta) en clases que no sean Educación Física
• Pants sobre pantalón de uniforme
• Blusas trasparentes o ropa de mezclilla
• Artículos que tienen mayor parte rojo (incluyendo pero no limitado a: calcetines, zapatos, bufandas, mochilas)
• Pañuelo, “do-rags”, tubos para el pelo, rosarios
• Pantuflas, Chanclas, cualquier zapato sin respaldo

Alumnos que no tengan puesto el uniforme recibirán consecuencias. La primer vez que vengan sin uniforme se reportaran a la oficina, recibirán una copia de la póliza de uniforme, llamaran a la casa para que sepan los familiares, y se les dará un aviso formal (anotado en el archivo). Violaciones de uniforme adicional resultaran en acciones disciplinarias como: llamadas a casa, horas de servicio comunitario, OCS- Suspensión en la escuela, reuniones con consejero/administrador, y pueden ser referidos al SARB. Adicionalmente los alumnos quienes no estén en uniforme tendrán detención de almuerzo cada vez que no estén en uniforme.

Academic and behavior Expectations

Martin Luther King Jr., Junior High School scholars are expected to demonstrate exemplary behavior enabling them to achieve academic success. Approximately every five weeks progress reports/report cards will be mailed home to share academic (grades) and behavior (citizenship and work habits) progress with families.

In order to maintain communication between home and school, formal parent conferences are scheduled twice a year (see MLKJJHS bell schedule p. 3).   In addition families are encouraged to register for the Aeries parent portal (online access to grades, attendance, etc.) using a code (available in the office) and a parent email. If additional communication with teachers is desired, please call (925) 473-2500 and use the spell by name directory or send an email (teacher’s first initial and last name (no spaces) Ex: Bob Smith is bsmith@pittsburg.k12.ca.us .

Scholars are Expected to Know and be able to Calculate their GPA

Grade Point Average (GPA) is used to determine a student’s standing on the Merit List (3.0- 3.49), Honor Roll (3.5-3.9) and Principal’s List (4.0 or higher).  GPA is also one factor used to determine eligibility for special events and activities (must maintain 2.0 or higher).

Example:

Scholars are Expected to have Efficient Work Habits

Efficient work habits set scholars up for academic success. In order for scholars to demonstrate they are ready to learn, they need to bring the following materials on time to class daily:

• 3-inch binder with paper/notebooks (set-up explained in class)
• Pen(s), Pencil(s), and a dry erase (whiteboard) marker
• Student Planner (Binder Reminder) to write homework assignments

Completed (on-time) classwork and homework is vital to academic success. Families are encouraged to check their scholar’s planner nightly for assignments and due dates.

Scholars who are on time (not tardy), have supplies, and submit homework/classwork on time will receive Outstanding (O) or Satisfactory (S) report card marks under Work Habits (WH). Scholars who struggle with this expectation will receive Needs Improvement (N) or Unsatisfactory (U) report card marks under Work Habits (WH).

EXPECTATIVAS DE COMPORTAMIENTO Y ACADEMICO

Los alumnos de la Escuela Secundaria Martin Luther King, Jr., son requeridos a demostrar comportamiento ejemplar ayudándoles a lograr éxito académico. Aproximadamente cada cinco semanas se enviaran reportes de progreso/calificaciones a casa para poder compartir el progreso de calificaciones y comportamiento con la familia.  

Con fin de mantener comunicación entre casa y escuela, conferencias formales de padres y maestros se han establecido dos veces al año. En adicción, familias son invitadas a registrarse para el portal de padres de Aeries (acceso a calificaciones, asistencia, etc.) usando un código (disponible en la oficina) y un correo electrónico de padres. Si más comunicación con maestros es necesario, por favor llame (925) 473-2500 y utilice el directorio alfabético o mande un correo electrónico (primer inicial del maestro y apellido (no espacios) ej: Bob Smith seria bsmith@pittsburg.k12.ca.us .

Alumnos deben saber cómo calcular su GPA

El puntaje Promedio de Calificaciones (GPA) es utilizado para determinar si un estudiante está en la lista de Merito (3.0- 3.49), lista de Honores (3.5-3.9) y lista de la Directora (4.0 o más).  GPA también es un factor para determinar elegibilidad para eventos especiales y actividades (tiene que mantener un 2.0 o mejor).

Ejemplo:

Esperamos que los alumnos tengan hábitos de trabajo eficiente

Hábitos de trabajo eficiente ayudan para el éxito académico. Para que los estudiantes demuestren que están listos para aprender, necesitan traer lo siguiente a sus clases diariamente:

• Carpeta de 3-pulgadas con papel/cuadernos (se explicara en clases)
• Lapiceros, lápiz, y un marcador EXPO
• Libreta de notificaciones “Binder Reminder” para escribir sus tareas

Trabajo y tareas completados (a tiempo) es vital para el éxito académico. Familias son invitados a revisar la Libreta de notificaciones “Binder Reminder” cada noche para tareas y fechas de entrego.  

Alumnos quienes llegan a tiempo (no tarde), tienen materiales, y entregan tarea/trabajos a tiempo recibirán Excepcional (O) o Satisfactorio (S) en su calificación bajo “hábitos de trabajo” (WH). Alumnos quienes tienen dificultad con esta esperanza, recibirán Necesita Mejorar (N) o No Satisfactorio (U) en su calificación bajo “Work Habits” Habitos de trabajo(WH).

Scholars are Expected to be Model Citizens

Model citizens create an environment where they and their peers can be successful. There are

three school-wide rules to guide scholar’s behavior: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe.

Additional Campus Rules (once you pass through the gate until you exit though a gate)

Be in uniform

No cell phones, electronic devices, or headphones audible (hear) or visible (see)

No knives (sharp objects), guns (real or fake), or weapons (or anything weapon-like)

No medication (legal or illegal) unless “Permit to Take Medicine in School” on file

No gum, eating/food only at designated table areas or with explicit teacher permission (i.e. class party)

No elevator use (without office pass)

Do not open gates during school hours (visitors must go through office)

Walk with purpose between classes (on designated pathways)

Scholars, who are consistently respectful of students and staff, are responsible for actively participating in class instruction, and are safe in the classroom will receive Outstanding (O) or Satisfactory (S) report card marks under Citizenship (Cit). Scholars who struggle with expectations will receive Needs Improvement (N) or Unsatisfactory (U) report card marks under Citizenship (Cit).  Scholars may also receive a referral and/or an administrative consequence.

Esperamos que los alumnos tengan un comportamiento ejemplar

Un comportamiento ejemplar crea un ambiente donde ellos y sus compañeros son exitosos. Tenemos tres reglas para toda la escuela para guiar el comportamiento de un alumno. Ser Respetosos, Ser Responsables, y estar a salvo.

Reglas Adicionales (desde el momento que entre a escuela hasta el momento que salga de escuela)

Use uniforme escolar

No debe ser escuchado o visto lo siguiente: teléfono celular, electrónicos, o audífonos

No cuchillos (objetos afilados), pistolas (reales o falsas), o armas (o cualquier cosa que pueda ser usada como arma)

No medicamentos (legal o ilegal) solamente si tienen la forma “Permiso de Tomar Medicamentos en la Escuela”

No chicle, comiendo/comida solamente en la áreas designadas o con permiso del maestro (ej. Fiesta de clase)

No puede usar el elevador (sin pase de la oficina)

No abran las puertas  durante horas escolares (visitantes tienen que entrar por la oficina)

Caminen con  propósito durante el intermedio (en caminos designados) Alumnos quienes son respetuosos con sus compañeros y con el personal, son responsables en participar en clase, y están a salvo en la clase recibirán una (O) excepcional o (S) satisfactorio en sus calificaciones bajo ciudadanía “Citizenship (Cit)”. Alumnos quienes tienen dificultad con esto recibirán una (N) necesita mejorar o una (U) no satisfactorio. Alumnos también pueden recibir una consecuencia de un administrador.  

Administrative Consequences

Each progress reporting period (Report Card), scholars who fall below a 2.0 GPA, have 2 or more negative (N or U) citizenship/work habit marks, have 2 or more referrals, owe community service hours, and/or have been suspended will be ineligible for special events and activities (including 8^th grade activities).

Lunchtime Learning/Detention

Students who fall below a 2.0 GPA will be placed in a lunchtime learning class. They may work on homework, missing assignments, and/or use this time to prepare for upcoming exams. Students will remain in lunchtime learning until their GPA is a 2.0 or above.

Daily Check-In  (Mentor) Sheets

Students who fall below a 2.0 GPA and/or have 2 or more negative citizenship or work habit marks will be asked to complete a daily check-in sheet with their core teachers. A family member should check the paper daily and sign at the end of the week. Scholars turn this paper in to a school mentor. Sheets will be phased out as behavior/academics improve.

Community Service

Students who are not safe, respectful, responsible may receive community service hour(s). This program is run though the OCS Aide and may be given in addition to other consequences. Students who do not complete their hours will face additional consequences and will be ineligible for special events and activities (including 8^th grade activities).

On Campus Suspension/Suspension/Expulsion

Students who receive referrals from teachers and/or violate Education Code (laws) will receive disciplinary action in line with the PUSD Progressive disciplinary action chart (found in The Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook).

Cafeteria

Breakfast and Lunch

Free breakfast is available from 8:00 to 8:25 every school day for every student. Lunch is available every school day. Free/reduced lunch applications are available online at pittsburg.k12.ca.us (link on bottom right) and from the cafeteria (paper application).

Food Allergies

The district requests to be notified when a student has been diagnosed with a food allergy, especially those allergies that could result in dangerous or possibly life threatening reactions either by inhalation, or skin contact with the particular food. It is important to disclose the food to which the student is allergic, as well as the nature of the allergic reaction. Please contact the school office (925) 473-2500 if your child has a known food allergy.

Alumnos quienes tienen en GPA menos de 2.0 y/o tienen 2 o más N o U, tendrán que completar una hoja de revisión diario con uno de sus maestros. Un miembro de la familia tiene que revisar el papel diario y firmarlos al fin de la semana. Alumnos entregan este papel a su mentor. Las hojas ya no se ocuparan cuando su GPA mejore.  

Servicio Comunitario

Alumnos quienes no están a salvo, no son respetuosos o responsables pueden recibir horas de servicio comunitario. Alumnos quienes no completan sus horas, recibirán más consecuencias y serán inelegibles para eventos especiales y actividades (incluyendo actividades del grado 8).

Suspensión en Campus/ Suspensión/ Expulsión

Alumnos quienes reciben formas de disciplina de maestros y/o violan los códigos de educación (leyes) recibirán acción disciplinaria aliado con las del Distrito Escolar de Pittsburg (en el libro Derecho y Responsabilidades del Alumno).

Desayuno y Almuerzo

El desayuno es gratis y está disponible de 8:00 a 8:25 cada día escolar para cada alumno. Almuerzo es disponible cada día escolar. Aplicaciones para almuerzo gratis/reducido están en la página de internet al www.pittsburg.k12.ca.us o de la cafetería.

Alergias a Comida

El distrito pide que se les notifique cuando un alumno es diagnosticado con alergia alguna comida, especialmente las alergias que pueden resultar en fuerte peligro con inhalación o contacto. Es importante avisarnos a cual comida es alérgica/o su alumno al igual que clase de reacción. Por favor llame a la oficina de la escuela si su alumno tiene alergia.

AVID- Advancement via Individual Determination

AVID is a college readiness program designed to increase school wide learning and performance. Emphasis is placed on personal responsibility, character building and answering the question "what do you want to do after high school?" Community, CSU, and UC colleges take note of student transcripts with AVID courses because AVID students’ high success rate in college. Therefore, AVID courses are a very prestigious addition to a student’s transcript.

Students in AVID will work on areas such as:

• Organization/ Note taking skills
• Study/Test taking skills
• Social skills for academic success

Address Updates

It is very important to keep your Current address updated at all times. The only way to give, change or update and address is with a current utility bill from the residence you are living in with your name on the bill, if you are sharing or renting from someone there is a form to fill out that you can get from the Registrar office. The form needs to be notarized by a professional.

AVID es un programa de preparación para el Colegio que aumenta ampliamente el aprendizaje y el rendimiento. Se le da énfasis a la responsabilidad personal, el crecimiento de carácter y el de responder a la pregunta “¿Qué quieres hacer después de la preparatoria?” Colegio de la Comunidad, Colegios CSU, y UC ponen atención en los expedientes con cursos de AVID, porque los estudiantes de AVID tienden a sobresalir más en colegio. Por lo tanto, los cursos de AVID son de mucho prestigio junto con los expedientes de calificaciones de los estudiantes.

El estudiante de AVID trabajará en áreas como:

• Organización/ habilidad de tomar Notas
• Estudio/habilidad para tomar exámenes
• Habilidades sociales para sobresalir académicamente

Actualización de Dirección

Es muy importante mantener al corriente su dirección todo el tiempo. La única manera de dar cambiar o mantener al corriente su dirección es por medio de un pago de servicio, si usted comparte o renta a alguien más, hay una forma que debe llenar y la puede obtener en la oficina principal. SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL (SSC)

What is it?

Did you know we have a monthly School Site Council meeting every month? This meeting is open to all parents, and can be a great way to suggest or express concerns about your school community.

Who makes it up?

 The school site council is a group of teachers, parents, classified employees, and students that works with the principal to develop, review and evaluate school improvement programs and school budgets. The members of the site council are generally elected by their peers.

How to get involved?

If you are interested and want to have a say in school improvement and/or budget planning, you may enjoy serving on our School Site Council. If you are interested we are having an orientation meeting in Pittsburg High School (PHS).

CONSEJO ESCOLAR (SSC)

¿Qué es?

Sabía usted que tenemos reuniones mensuales del Consejo Escolar (SSC) Esta reunión está abierta  para todos los padres, y puede ser una gran manera para sugerir o expresar las preocupaciones acerca de nuestra comunidad educativa.

¿Quiénes lo forman?

 El Consejo Escolar es un grupo de maestros, padres, personal de la escuela y estudiantes que junto con la Directora desarrollan, revisan, y evalúan los programas de mejoramiento y el presupuesto escolar. Los miembros del Consejo Escolar generalmente se eligen por su propio grupo.

¿Cómo involucrarme?

Si usted está interesado y quiere tener parte directa en las decisiones de la escuela y planear el presupuesto, usted puede disfrutar sirviendo en nuestro Consejo Escolar. Si usted está interesado tendremos una reunión de orientación en la Preparatoria de Pittsburg (PHS) en Agosto.

1. WHAT IS A VOLUNTEER?
   1. A visitoris defined as an individual who, with District authorization attends a special event. A visitor does not need to have fingerprint clearance or a tuberculosis test.
      • Examples of a visitor include a parent attending Open House, parent conferences, a concert or football game.
   2. A guestis defined as an individual who, with District authorization, assists students, teachers and the school with one-time activities. A guest does not need to have fingerprint clearance or a tuberculosis test. The guest is under constant supervision by staff.
      • Examples of a guest include a guest speaker, a parent helping with a class project or an elementary field day.
   3. A volunteeris defined as a non-paid individual who, with school District authorization, assists students, schools, or educational programs. This individual is under direct supervision of District staff, but may not always be under the immediate supervision of staff. The service can be on a short-term, project-specific or on-going basis. A volunteer is required to complete a Volunteer Application, Code of Conduct form, have a clear tuberculosis (TB) test, and have a fingerprint background check completed prior to rendering service.
      • Examples of a volunteer include a parent helping out in his/her child’s classroom, a parent/individual volunteering on field trips, a parent/individual tutoring after school or a college student assisting with a class for credit.

WHERE DO I REPORT TO VOLUNTEER?

Contact our Parent Liaison, Ana Perez (925) 373-2500 Ext 3519.  As a volunteer, you are required to sign-in and sign out at the school office each time you are on campus.

As a volunteer, you will be required to wear some form of identification badge issued by the school office.

2. Un visitante, una persona que con la autorización del Distrito asiste a eventos especiales. Un visitante no necesita tener huellas ni la prueba de tuberculosis.  Ejemplos de visitantes incluye: Casa Abierta, conferencias de Padres, un concierto o juego de futbol.
3. Un Invitado, se define como un individuo que, con la autorización del Distrito, ayuda a los estudiantes, maestros y la escuela en una actividad. Un invitado no necesita huellas, ni la prueba de tuberculosis. El invitado está bajo constante supervisión del personal de la escuela.

            Ejemplos de un invitado incluye: como orador, un padre ayudando en un Proyecto de clase, o día de actividades deportivas.

3. Un Voluntario es definido como un individuo que no recibe un salario, y con la autorización del Distrito ayuda a los estudiantes, la escuela o los programas educativos. Este individuo está bajo supervisión directa por el personal del Distrito, pero no siempre bajo la vigilancia inmediata del supervisor o el personal. El servicio que provee puede ser a corto plazo, un proyecto específico o en bases continuas. Un voluntario requiere completar la aplicación de Voluntario, la forma de conducta y haber aclarado su prueba de tuberculosis y tener sus huellas checadas antes de prestar su servicio como voluntario.

            Ejemplos de voluntario incluye ayudar dentro del salón de su hijo(a), ayudando en viajes de estudio, dando tutorial después de escuela o ayudando o estudiantes de colegio ayudando a la clase para obtener créditos.
