Highlands Parent's Club
Highlands enjoys amazing support from our Parents' Club. We have a large group of parents who plan activities for our students. They organized a fantastic fall event with games and activities, a haunted house and a costume contest.  During the holidays they offered students an opportunity to purchase affordable gifts for family. In the spring they organize a school wide Fun Day complete with dunk tanks, inflatable attractions and many more fun activities for our students. The Parent Club volunteers are deeply appreciated for all of their effort!  Fun Day is scheduled for Friday, June 8, 2012.  If interested in helping contact Highlands office for further information.

STAR Testing

This year STAR testing begins on May 7.  Students from grades 2-5 will be given tests in language arts and mathematics.  Every teacher has worked hard to prepare students to demonstrate proficiency on grade level standards.  We are confident that our results will be impressive!

Transitional Kindergarten

In the fall of 2012, PUSD will begin implemention of Transitional Kindergarten in line with the State's changing law about kindergarten age requirements.  The transitional kindergarten class is designed for students born between Sept. 1 and Dec. 1 of 2007 (for the 2012-13 school year).  Students born in those months will spend one year in TK and then be prepared for a regular kindergarten class the following year.  All elementary schools in PUSD will have a TK class for the 2012-13 school year.

Parent Participation

Highlands encourages interested parents to attend meetings of the School Site Council (SSC) and/or the English Learners Advisory Committee (ELAC).  SSC meets monthly and ELAC meets four times per year.  Watch for announcements of exact meeting dates.

Drop Off

We have developed what we consider to be the safest way for students to be dropped off in the morning.  We appreciate parents who follow procedures.  In the morning we have an area coned off for cars to enter, students wearing orange vests assist students in getting our of their car and then close the car door.  We appreciate having students ready for a quick drop off.  Please use this drop off area instead of parking in a parking spot.  Again, our efforts are to keep our students safe.  Your cooperation is appreciated.
