After School Program

All elementary, junior high and high schools participate in Pittsburg Unified School District After School program. The programs are funded through state and federal grants. After School Education and Safety (ASES) grant funds the elementary and junior highs and the high schools are funded through the 21st Century grant (federal grant).

The major goal is to improve academic achievement and provide safe and healthy environments and activities for children and youth. Each school in the Pittsburg Unified School District provides a mix of academic (homework hour), enrichment, and recreational activities aimed at achieving the following set of goals:
1. To improve academic performance;
2. To create a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment;
3. To help students develop life skills, including leadership and appreciation of cultural and ethnic diversity;
4. To engage students in nutrition, fitness, and enrichment activities; and
5. To provide families of A4A participants with multiple opportunities to participate in literacy and educational development activities.

To accomplish these goals, each site participates in:

Daily Recreation & Enrichment
Junior Achievement Program
Food Bank of Contra Costa County (fresh fruits & vegetables are sent home each week)
New Kids Program - Nutrition,Exercise and Wellness Program
Performing Arts Grant
Track & Field Events
Board Games Competition
Dominoes

Activities include:
• Academic - activities primarily oriented toward building students' academic skills, including homework help, tutoring, and/or subject-specific activities.
• Enrichment - activities primarily oriented toward exposing participants to new experiences or skills, such as cooking, drama and other performing arts.
• Recreational - activities such as sports and games, nutrition, and exercise.
• Family/Parent - activities such as student performances, and adult orientation, family games and recreation nights.

PUSD After School Education and Safety (ASES) AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
