School "No Lice" Policy
A "no lice" policy allows students to return to school only after all lice have been removed from hair and treatment has begun for killing "nits" (Eggs). This policy helps to prevent transmission and reinfestation and reduces the need for over treatment. If your child has been excluded from school because of lice, you need to be sure your child is lice-free before he or she returns to school.
Please Have Your Child Report To The Office Upon Returning To School To Help In This Last Step.
Lice Facts
Head lice are tiny human parasites that live on the scalp and can cause itching and scratching. They lay their eggs (nits) on hair shafts. Lice have been passed from human to human for thousands of years.
Most lice infestations occur in children 1 - 12 years of age.
Their primary means of transmission is head-to-head contact. They can also be passed from person to person on clothing, bed linens and with the sharing of hats, combs, etc.
- Having lice is NOT a sign of uncleanliness.
- Lice are fast-crawlers. They DO NOT jump or fly.
- The adult louse lives about one month.
- Lice eggs (nits) hatch within one to two weeks.
- No lice control product will kill 100% of nits despite label claims.
- Lice CANNOT live on pets. DO NOT treat your pets for human lice!
