Classified Continuous Announcements

All applicants for positions as a substitute with Pittsburg Unified School District must complete a Classified Application and submit it to the Human Resources Department. Applications can be filled out two ways:

1) Applicants can click here to fill out an application online and have it submitted via the district internet routing system. Once you click submit, the application will be sent to the classified Human Resources desk. Any additional information, such as resumes, DMV readouts, test results, may be attached to the application prior to sending. Instructions will be on the application form for how to attach additional documents to the application.

2) Applicants can also click on this .pdf link to find our application that can be filled out online and printed, or it can be printed blank and filled out manually. You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.0 to use this writable form. You can click on this Adobe link for a free download of the program. In both instances, the application can be submitted by email to humanresources@pittsburg.k12.ca.us, or via US Mail or hand-delivered to:

Once the application has been accepted in Human Resources, you will be contacted as to the next testing date for the position(s) you have applied for. Exams are given to qualify for most positions with the Pittsburg Unified School District. You must pass with a score of 70% or better on all tests.

Upon passing the position exam(s) and being qualified to be a substitute within the District, you will be required to provide fingerprint clearance from the California Department of Justice and possibly the FBI; we have provided a link below with a list of locations that you can go to for LiveScan fingerprinting. You are also responsible for providing the District with a negative TB test result. You can go to your own medical provider, or you can use Muir/Diablo Occupational Medicine for your TB test (see link below). New hires are responsible for the cost of fingerprints and the TB test.

Substitute Clerical Position - This position is an on-call substitute position for the various clerical positions in the Pittsburg Unified School District. When a secretary or other clerical staff is out from their school site or department, a substitute may be called in as clerical support.

Applicants must provide documentation of being able to type 45 words per minute. They also must pass the District's entry-level clerical test with a passing grade of 70% or better. The test includes grammar, spelling, math, and computer skills (including the use of Word and Excel). Clerical substitutes earn $13.89 per hour.

Substitute Instructional and Special Education Aides - The substitute Aide is an on-call position. Substitute Instructional and Special Education Aides work in the classroom as support for the teacher in working with the children in the class. Instructional Aide substitutes work with the general classroom in elementary schools, and in specific areas of instruction in the junior and senior high schools. Special Education Aides work in the classroom with students that have special needs. The Special Education Aide may work one-on-one with a particular student or in the classroom environment.

Instructional and Special Education Aides must pass a qualifying test, with a grade of 70% or better. The exam allows substitutes to work in the classroom, as set forth by the "No Child Left Behind" guidelines. Substitute Instructional and Special Education Aides' salaries range from $9.12 to $10.03 per hour, depending on the position taken.

Substitute Custodian - The substitute custodian is an on-call position, filling in at the many school and district sites when the permanent custodian is absent. To be eligible for work as a substitute custodian, applicants must pass the custodian test with a score of 70% or better. They also must pass a pre-employment strength test. Positions may be days or evenings. During the summer recess, current employees with the District that have qualified as custodians are eligible to substitute, and will be called by seniority prior to the regular year substitutes being called. Substitute custodians receive $13.89 per hour.

Substitute Bus Drivers - Substitute bus drivers fill in on routes when the regular driver is absent from work. This is an on-call position, and shifts vary depending on the needs of the Transportation Department. To apply, the applicant must provide, with the application, an H-6 (10-year history) printout from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), and have a valid California Driver's License. If the Transportation Department is interested, upon examination of documents provided, the applicant will be contacted.

Substitute bus drivers must complete training and the pass the written and performance test with the California Highway Patrol. Upon certification, applicants enter the substitute pool and will earn $14.94 per hour.

Substitute Breakfast Duty Supervisor and Noon Duty Supervisor - Substitute Breakfast Duty and Noon Duty Supervisors patrol and supervise school buildings, yards, and premises to assure safety of the students, during the breakfast and noon times. Shifts vary from 1 - 2.5 hours per day, as an on-call position. Applicants must have the equivalent of graduation from high school, plus some experience working with students. Substitute Breakfast and Noon Duty Supervisors earn $10.03 per hour.

Substitute Campus Resource Assistant - Campus Resource Assistants work with the school administrator and Community Resource Office to assist in the supervision of students and the maintenance of security on a school campus and the immediate surrounding areas. To be eligible as a Substitute Campus Resource Assistant, you must have the equivalent of graduation from high school, have experience working with students, and pass a pre-employment physical fitness test. Substitute Campus Resource Assistants work on-call and earn $13.89 per hour.
